All fur coat and no knickers

As in, ‘Oh, don’t listen to her, she’s All fur coat and no knickers, that one.’

Ocelot fur coat by Kürschner, via Wikimedia CommonsLately, I’ve realised, ‘that one,’ is me. If you’re unfamiliar with this saying, it basically means that someone is all talk and no action. Earlier this year, I talked about Giving more, Doing more, and Being more. I have been quietly giving and doing more but being more – well, as I’ve said before, not so much. I’ve also talked about writing. I’ve not talked about my novel that much, but I have talked about it enough that you’d think I’d have got more done.

Perhaps I’m spending too much time talking, and not enough time just getting on with it. So, with this in mind, I have decided to only post one or two blogs each month from now on, so that I can shift my focus to this big project and keep it there. I’m still interested in interviewing more Ordinary People for the series if you’d like to take part/know anyone who would, and I would welcome any guest posts if you’re interested in writing one! I’m especially interested in showcasing guest posts from young writers like Natalie.

Right, now… Please excuse me while I take off this ridiculous fur coat* and get back into my jeans. 😉

* I don’t actually own a fur coat.

    Good luck! You can do it x p.s Kate Bush takes 10yrs to make an album, no need to rush you’ll get there in the end! xxx

    Exactly! x

  3. We’ll make do with one or two posts a month, so don’t get your knickers in a twist over that… if you have any!

  4. Try and aim for a chapter a week like I’ve been doing. Then you will find yourself scheduling in time to do it. Or if a chapter is too much decide on a number of words and stick to it. No pressure but hurry up I’m looking forward to reading your novel! x

    • A chapter a week would be nice! I aim for at least half an hour a day. Sometimes that’s 2,000 words, sometimes it’s 20. It may not sound like much but it works – especially as my son is not a good sleeper and there’s no way I can get anything done when he’s awake! Blogging less will help though.

      Glad you’re looking forward to it but it’s likely to be a bit of a wait! I might send something to beta readers when I’ve written a few chapters but we’ll see… I’ll let you know!

  5. It took me some time – sorry! – but I finally made it here and read several posts.
    Focusing on writing a book is not that easy… My editing is still not complete, and funnily enough I posted today about blogging less and working on the book more for the time being!
    Let’s just say “good luck” to us both?
    Keep me posted about your progress… 🙂 xx

  6. Days are so busy… Good for you taking time for your other projects. Change priorities and do what you need, when you can. We understand xx

  7. I wish you much success, and glad I stumbled here today. I’m encouraged to complete my book by focusing more.
